The St George's Vaccine Institute is an independent, non-commercial, academic institution.

The first phase opened in 1996 as a combined clinical, scientific and educational facility, with the final official opening in 1998 by HRH The Princess Royal

It has a focus on diseases of poverty that afflict populations in under-developed and resource-poor areas, and on on paediatric infections.

Over 6 million pounds in grants has been raised to conduct a series of human clinical trials of paediatric vaccines and vaccines against infectious diseases plaguing the most underprivileged members of the world community
